Throughout my life living with the neurological condition ‘Dyscalculia’, I’ve struggled to talk to others about my experiences and to seek support. In adulthood I’ve become increasingly aware of the impact this has had on my education and my life more generally. Recently, I have begun to consider how similar conditions have affected others.

It is estimated that between four and five percent of the UK population have experienced ‘Specific Learning Difficulties’ (SpLD), and research by the Department of Education has shown that boys and girls are both equally affected by SpLD in 2019. According to this study Schools in England are failing to diagnose at least 80% of pupils who have dyslexia.

The Veiled Reality explores what it means to be an adult with a neurological learning condition, our stories throughout education, the struggles we face, the achievements we are proud of and the impact a lack of resources and awareness can have on the lives of those living with such conditions.
